Club Communications & Methods
Information and Announcements
All information for our members is delivered in one or more
of several methods depending on the urgency and the scope of
the message. Vehicles we use are:
-
Newsletter - for general monthly updates, news
and information
-
Website - for all club info as well as more time
sensitive topics
-
Bulk email -
cnewemail at Yahoo! for general or
Members Only for restricted
-
Direct email - for messaging from one or more
members to others
-
Phone calls - used where electronic or postal
mail are inadequate.
Some
details on various communication vehicles follows:
Newsletters & delivery
With today's technology it only makes sense to distribute
our newsletters by electronic mail. This serves to deliver
the material virtually instantaneously as well as saves
publication and delivery costs compared to courier mail
methods. Our newsletters are emailed to each member who has
an email address on file on a regular schedule each month.
Members without such ability or who for other reasons
require a hardcopy are sent one through regular USPS mail
services to their home. These mailed newsletters are printed
in black and white only whereas the electronic versions are
in full color.
General "Bulk" Email delivery
In
our attempt to wrestle with the challenge of broadcast
messages delivery to all members in a timely manner, we
currently utilize a semi-public email distribution
service provided by Yahoo as our primary method. We manage a
free email "group" with the Yahoo service identified as "cnewemail@yahoogroups.com"
whose member list is by subscription only and is managed by
us. Any member is welcome, in fact urged, to join and then
both send and receive messages, pictures or files to or from
other members of the list. Members not receiving
email by means of this system often miss useful information
or notices.
All emails are archived and available for later review
or retrival. Other qualified individuals interested in
woodturning are also allowed to join our group. Though we do
not profess this system to be without flaws, it is the best
we have found to date and welcome suggestions on a better
system.

We are also testing out a new method using
our website to help you send a private email to all
current club members at one time. This is especially
useful to those individuals that do not wish to participate
in services like Yahoo Groups or where a record of the email
is not suitable for retention in a public area like the
Yahoo Groups system.
You
can send an email to all members using a list available from
within the password restricted
Members Only area.
Here you click on a link which launches your e-mail client
program on your computer (AOL, Outlook etc.) and creates a
blank email with the list of recipients already filled in,
which is all of our current members email addresses.

Special Club Officer email ID's
To simplify and promote
communication specifically with the current officers of the
club, we have created the following email id's to send club
related messages using the following addresses. The message
is either sent only to the single recipient or a group of
recipients as indicated below:
