Submitted by Tim Elliott, Secretary
Minutes of CNEW meeting 7/10/2008
Two guests/new members:
Eric Holmquist
Frank Sciqulinsky
Treasury balance is $4437.98
Jerry Sambrook is working to arrange demos by Al Stirt in September. The
first will be at our regular meeting on September 6th - a textured
square platter. The second will be an all-day hands-on class on
September 7th, and requires pre-registration. Six of eight spots were
already full at the beginning of the meeting.
Jerry is also working on the possibility of having Jimmy Clewes demo for
us in May 2009. If interested, contact Jerry.
We have booked a booth at the show that the Craft Center holds every
Thanksgiving weekend.
Gene Spadi is coordinating with Roger Biosvert for an open turning event
on October 18th. This event will be a public demonstration by CNEW
members at Roger's shop in Fitchburg, MA. Members are invited to
demonstrate and sell their work commission-free.
Thanks to the many CNEW volunteers who helped relocate the lathes in the
Craft Center's wood shop in June.
Additional opportunities to volunteer or help out:
1) The Craft Center's ceramics program is always seeking firewood for
their kiln.
2) The CNEW newsletter is always seeking articles.
Thanks to Frank White for leading this month's Learn-and-Turn session on
turning burls.
Bill LeClerc is now coordinating the Learn-and-Turn sessions. Contact
him if you would like to lead one or have any ideas for future topics.
See the CNEW website for more information on:
10th Annual Rocky Mountain symposium
Member discounts at Craft Supplies USA and Hartville tool
ART will be demonstrating at the Marshfield Fair Aug 15-24. Dave Eaton
has more info.
Project Goodwill continues to raise money for wheelchairs around the
world. Several CNEW contributions will go to their fundraiser event in
CA scheduled for July 22.
Several members attended the June field trip to Sean Robert's
woodworking. Thanks to Charlie for arranging this opportunity.
Al Gilburg would like to host a wood harvesting trip on his wood lot
during the month of July. Contact him if interested.
There will not be a "regular" meeting in August - instead, we will have
our annual picnic at Charlie Croteau's house in Worcester. The event
starts at noon on Aug 2nd, rain or shine. As usual, the club will
provide burgers/dogs and drinks.... bring a side dish or dessert to
share. The theme/challenge project will be to turn a mushroom for your
garden.
